2001: A Space Odyssey

If Stanely Kubrick had mastered anything by 1968 it was definitely the art of pacing. 2001 has to be one of the most deliberate and slow paced films I've ever seen. Kubrick takes his time alright, but it shows, as his shots are beautifully composed and executed. The narrative definitely left a lot to be desired, and I can't say I'm really a huge fan of this film, but I definitely liked his take on space and the technology he envisioned for the future. I also have to admire this film's cinematography, it is beautifully shot.

The idea of HAL going AWOL is definitely a scary one, but fortunately for us, as far as movies go, the human(s) are always going to beat the machines...eventually. These kind of movies band us humans together and establish a common motive of destroying the machines that have overtook us. This is definitely an effective storyline and we see it time and time again (Terminator movies, Matrix movies). Nothing better than feeling uplifted and one with the rest of humanity while you're running for your lives and battling killer or insane robots.
Aren't those damn machines supposed to be smarter than us? Is there ever going to be a movie where the machines win? If there is, I'm sure not seeing it, I like that uplifting feeling when humanity triumphs yet again. Talk about mankind's will to survive. It's...envigorating... H-U-M-A-N-S HUMANS!
